Spring Salon

(Sorry the picture is shiny, but Jeff likes using Varnish to layer, so good pictures are tricky)

Jeff was working hard last month on a piece to enter into the Springville Museum of Art Spring Salon, pretty much the biggest show in the state. We both had a really good feeling about it. There were over 1800 pieces entered. They accepted only 250. Which included the best of the best, James Christensen, Walter Rane, Brian Kershisnik, an Arnold Friberg piece, and many other big Utah names.  Jeff did not get in. We were disappointed, especially b/c we both 'had a good feeling.'

We decided to send Jeff off to the opening Ball (it was formal too, dinner, entertainment, mimes, performance art and lots of other fun things) where they also gave the awards out. The big winner of the night was a friend of Jeff's. They had classes together at the U, and will occasionally go and sketch together. So if you know anything about art, it's all about Who You Know. (but what isn't these days?) So Jeff went with another friend that got in. He bumped into the assistant curator. She said to send her an email with the picture of his piece so she could give him feedback. Well that was nice, but she may have said that to a lot of people. Jeff bumped into a couple more times that night, and was able to talk to her more. He sent an email, and it turns out she personally LOVED his work and his style. AND it was one of the last ones cut. She can't say specifically why it didn't get in, but just tips and pointers, as well as feedback from the other judges and curators. Awesome!  We are so thankful for that, and what may continue to come from it!
